If Game of thrones is to shoot in India, i dont think there is a better place than Rajasthan. I covered most of the Rajasthan in October’14. And it was a Road trip again!
We followed :
Delhi – Ajmer (390 km)
Ajmer – Pushkar (15 km)
Pushkar – Chittorgarh (207 km)
Chittorgarh – Udaipur (117 km)
Updaipur – Jaipur (419 km)
Jaipur – Delhi (260 km)
So yeah, it was a week long holiday for us 🙂
Where to Stay :
As all of these are tourist places, you will get all the hotels, very easily, from 1 star to 5 star almost at all the places. And as a matter of fact, its Rajasthan, i am sure you have your friends/family staying there too!
* Ajmer : We all are aware about Dargah, Ajmer Sharif. It is too crowded anytime, any week, any day of the year. But, But, But, its a must must visit. The sense of calmness you will feel in between that crowd cannot be felt anywhere else. Also there is, Ajmer Jain Temple, its a one time visit too.
* Pushkar : I can write endlessly about this place. To my surprise, it is one and only Hippiest place of Rajasthan. You can find Muchi-pagdi wale uncles to firangs to photographers there! Of course, most of them are chilling holding chillum or pipe 😉
Sit by the ghats at night and check the serenity of this place. basically, forget yourself in midst of ghats.
* Chittorgarh : This city is famous for largest fort in India, the Chittorgarh fort. And also, many mughal stories are related to this place of wars, weddings, sacrifice and all that can fascinate a history lover ! I am not one of them so yea, google the rest.
* Udaipur : The city of lakes, Ya i know, city of lakes in rajasthan ! This royal land has 5 lakes that make it one of the most beautiful destination of India. Also, while you are here, you can get the best view of sunset from Monsoon palace. Number of tourists and specially photographers gather here to get a glimpse !
*Jaipur : Capital and largest city of Rajasthan. Beside visitng Hawa Mahal, Johri Bazaar, City palace, Chokhi Dhani Resort, do visit Amber fort and catch the Light show here and you will be awestruck!
When to visit :
October to March as it stays extremely hot rest of the year.
Rajasthani food is so delicious that you can visit here just for the sake of delicious Rajasthani cuisine ! DO DO DO try the food at any local rajasthani hotel for the real taste ! Natraj Lodge , Udaipur particulary is famous for the Thaalis!
