Road Trip- Manali > Ladakh

We cannot describe Ladakh as a gem because its nothing less than whole crown. The only person who can understand what I am saying is the one who has lived it, the beauty and simplicity of this place.

Ladakh is a region of Jammu and Kashmir which is surrounded by Kuen Lun mountain range to the Great Himalayas.

As we planned this trip, we took flight from New Delhi to Ladakh and then covered Ladakh to Manali via Road. Undoubtedly it was the road trip of lifetime.

By Road : From capital, Ladakh is 1250 km.
Manali – Leh highway is one of the most tricky but most beautiful highway in India. It follows,
Manali – Rohtang Pass – Keylong – Jispa -Baralacha La – Bharatpur – Sarchu (state border) – Pang – More Plains – Tanglang La – Upshi – Leh. We took the same route from Leh till Manali. Travel time is unpredictable because weather keeps taking U – turns with every turn you take. It is advised to complete the route in 3 days taking breaks at Sarchu, keylong or pang,

By Air : Delhi to Ladakh is 1h 20min flight. And main Leh is like 20 mins from the airport. PS : do not sleep during flight else you are going to miss most magnificent views you will see in your lifetime.

STAY : Here, home stays are the most preferred and convenient option to stay. They are cheap plus they can cook you whatever food preference you have.

Hanle : It is 250 kms from Leh. It took us around 6 hours to cover the journey. Route from Leh to hanle is beautiful. We got a home stay there and the couple cooked us delicious meals. Hanle is famous for The Indian Astronomical Observatory.

Khardungla or K-Top : It is one of the highest motor-able road of India. We hired Bikes to travel from Leh to K Top and i was frozen at 18,379 ft but every moment i spent to reach there was worth of that bumpy ride i will never forget.

Tso Moriri : It is the most scenic lake i have ever seen in my life. You know when you are sitting by the lake with heavy wind crossing your face from everywhere and there is no one to be seen for as far as you can see. That moment get frozen in your brain for long.

Shanti Stupa : It is one of the most calm and peaceful places i have visited in my life. It is Big, it has drums playing, it has people chanting but still the calmness you will find inside you despite all of this is hard to be found anywhere.

Pangong Lake , Nubra valley , Magnetic Hills : These places I am yet to cover but i can assure you i am not dying before i visit them.

Yep, every one is going to face this specially when you are travelling by Air. It is advisable to consult a doctor about the medication you should take before you start your journey.

My fav part of travelling, yay! Sku and Thukpa is the main food of Ladakh. Sweet tea, Momos (Meat and veg) are available at almost every stall you will visit.

Half of the population of ladakhis is Tibetans so delicious Tibetan cuisine is what you will find very easily,

The best time to visit Ladakh is from June until September.

From Sand dunes to snowfall to rains to lakes to mountains, Ladakh has it all. I hope you plan your next trip here soon.

I hope our story helps you plan your next trip. Adios!
